Hello! My name is Doe Thomas, and I am a digital illustrator, writer, and comic artist from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am currently a student at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, and am working towards a BFA in Illustration. This is my website, and now you have to explore it as much as you can.

Don't get lost...

For my Senior Thesis at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, I wrote and illustrated a debut comic titled, ROADTRIP.

In ROADTRIP, College grads Ripley Woodall, Julie Bartlett, and Ramona George take a trip to the edge of Michigan, Mackinaw. They’re all moving to Ontario, Canada, and are leaving Ohio for good. Are they really prepared for the adult world? Will they ever come back to the Midwest? Will they be gay and stuff?

The comic is available to purchase at my thesis showcase, and will be available online here.

Provided here is the script, thumbnails, and concept art I created in preparation for the comic. Please read it once it releases, and enjoy your stay...

Artist Statement

I am a digital illustrator, comic artist, and amateur printer from Cincinnati, Ohio. Pulling from my love of indie comics and unique printing processes, I seek to represent the beauty in the mundane, cherishing what’s crucial in the smaller moments of our lives. Born and raised in the Tri-state for all my life, I am influenced by being a Midwesterner, queer, and a complicated animal. Blending stylization, anthropomorphism, physical craft, collage, and screen printing, much of my recent work creates worlds that feel real in all the ways that really count.

For my quilted piece, We Are Still Here, I was inspired by the communities I’ve witnessed and been in around Ohio. Too many times I’ve heard dismissive statements about red states, inferring that the marginalized people there simply do not exist—I have always lived the contrary. This work is a dedication to those who have tirelessly been activists and advocates for their communities, as I would not be half the artist today without them. Through the usage of familiar flannel and camo fabrics, as well as printed DIY patches, I wish to reiterate that we have always been here and will never leave.

Who's this again...?

Hello! I am a digital illustrator, writer, and comic artist from Cincinnati, Ohio!

Born and raised in the Tri-state for all my life, I am influenced by being a Midwesterner, queer, and a complicated animal. If anything, I’m just trying to create the best comics I possibly can, sharing pieces of worlds I’ve made up, and hopefully connecting with people.
